In ancient Chinese wisdom a really talented girl need to be good at four things -- musical instrument(s), chinese chess, calligraphy, and painting. My dad holds to traditional value so well that I was taught the above four when/since I was young -- it turned out I was never good at either one of them, probably because I was too rebellious as a little kid to really learn anything. It's only later when I chose English literature as my undergrad major that I started to feel my deepest connection with humanities.
